Meet Dr. Allison Melnick

In her private practice, Dr. Melnick conducts forensic psychological evaluations in criminal and court-ordered matters, including assessments of adjudicative competency, criminal responsibility, psychosexual risk, and neuropsychological functioning. She contracts with multiple agencies, including Maine State Forensic Services, the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health, the Colorado Office of Civil and Forensic Mental Health, and the Orange County Department of Mental Health to provide objective, evidence-based evaluations and expert testimony.

In addition to her private forensic practice, Dr. Melnick serves part-time as a Licensed Staff Psychologist at Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center in New York, a maximum-security forensic hospital. Here, she provides individual and group treatment, competency-restoration interventions, and forensic evaluations for individuals with severe mental illness pursuant to CPL 330.20 and 730. She also provides clinical supervision to doctoral externs and interns pursuing specialized forensic training.

Dr. Melnick earned her doctorate in clinical psychology with a forensic specialization from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Her internship at Bellevue Hospital Center and Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center served as foundational experiences, immersing her in detention centers, court clinics, and hospital settings and deepening her understanding of the intersection between severe mental illness and the criminal legal system.

Her work is anchored in evidence-based psychological methods and forensic standards, delivering evaluations and reports that are legally sound, clinically thorough, and tailored to the unique demands of each case. Her goal is to provide clarity, professionalism, and credibility for legal decision-makers, attorneys, and clients alike.
